PETALING JAYA: Victims of a 2013 flood in Bertam Valley, Cameron Highlands are still waiting to be compensated after winning a suit against Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), says a DAP assemblyman.

Tanah Rata assemblyman Ho Chi Yang said about 70 victims were now calling for TNB to settle the judgment debt immediately.

“I hope that TNB, being a publicly listed company and government-linked company, understands the plight of the flood victims, and compensates them right away,” he said in a statement.

In 2015, the victims sued TNB for negligence in managing the Ringlet reservoir at the Sultan Abu Bakar Dam after it released water from the dam thrice resulting in floods in October 2013.

Three years later, the High Court found TNB guilty of negligence. Subsequently, the Court of Appeal and Federal Court upheld the ruling.

The victims were awarded RM50,000 costs by the High Court and RM20,000 costs by the appellate court.

Today, Ho said the victims were disappointed that they have yet to receive their compensation.

He added that they have suffered significant financial losses and accused TNB of dragging their feet in paying the compensation.

FMT is reaching out to TNB for comment. - FMT
