KUALA LUMPUR: A former minister has criticised Putrajaya, accusing it of lacking a sense of urgency and focus when it comes to handling economic matters.

“Hundreds of billions in foreign direct investment (FDI) have been announced, numerous memorandums of understanding (MoUs) have been signed with various countries.

“But what follow-up action has been taken?” Hishammuddin Hussein (BN-Sembrong) asked the government in the Dewan Rakyat.

The former home minister said it was not enough for ministers to just issue statements or hold press conferences.

“Action must not only be taken, but must also be seen and felt to being taken,” Hishammuddin said when debating the 2024 supply bill.

He said he found it hard to identify the key takeaways from the budget tabled by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

“Even the ministers do not appear to be interested and (based on) their attendance in the Dewan, it is as if they are not interested to even hear the debates.”
