Help pours in for Muggnisuari and her children

B Muggnisuari is grateful for the help she has received from the public and the authorities.

SHAH ALAM: Poverty-stricken B Muggnisuari could not hide her joy when she spoke of Good Samaritans who dropped by to lend her a much-needed hand.

In less than a day since her plight was highlighted by FMT yesterday, the 28-year-old and her five children, aged four to nine, had been visited by no fewer than 10 generous Malaysians offering cash and supplies.

“I am very happy with the help that I received from people after the article was published,” she said.

“I am grateful and thankful to FMT for helping me and my children receive donations and groceries.”

She said she could now breathe a sigh of relief, especially where food is concerned.

The cash and food she received from the visitors do not include the money received by Suriana Welfare Society, which is managing the donations for Muggnisuari. As of the time of this story, more than RM8,000 had been raised.

The family also received a visit from Selangor executive councillor V Papparaidu and Kota Damansara assemblyman Izuan Kasim.

Papparaidu, who holds the human resources and poverty eradication portfolio, said he was concerned the family had gone for days without food. He gave Muggnisuari groceries and cash.

“It is a small start to ensure the children do not go to bed hungry,” he told FMT, adding he will also ensure repairs to the house are carried out.

Papparaidu said he will also help Muggnisuari obtain birth certificates for her youngest two children who do not have the documents.

Izuan said he will help Muggnisuari apply for Selangor welfare assistance, known as Bingkas, which gives recipients RM300 a month for groceries.

Kota Damansara assemblyman Izuan Kasim said he will help Muggnisuari apply for Selangor welfare assistance, known as Bingkas.

“At the very least, their food security is resolved. I have been informed that the social welfare department will also provide assistance for the children,” he said.

He also said he has spoken to the Selangor Social Security Organisation (Socso) deputy director about finding a suitable job for Muggnisuari.

FMT is collaborating with the Suriana Welfare Society (Reg No PPM-010-10-04122010), which will manage assistance for the family.

Contributions may be made directly to Suriana Welfare Society, Maybank account number 512 361 505370. Kindly include the reference ‘Muggnisuari’.
