All major events in conjunction with Sarawak governor Abdul Taib Mahmud’s 87th birthday celebration on Saturday have been postponed.
According to state secretary Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Saturday will remain a state holiday but events scheduled for Oct 13-15 will be shelved until new dates are confirmed.
No reason was given for the postponement. The celebration for Taib’s birthday, which fell on May 21, was to include an investiture ceremony.
Taib (above) returned from Turkey where he sought medical treatment on Sept 16.
He appeared at the Maulidur Rasul celebration at Padang Merdeka, Kuching on Sept 28.
He served as Sarawak’s chief minister for 33 years from 1981 to 2014. Following this, he was appointed governor of Sarawak.
