Kemaman polls: Samsuri careful to not break election laws

KEMAMAN BY-ELECTION | Perikatan Nasional’s candidate Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar is careful about not violating election laws while campaigning for the Dec 2 polls.

“We are very careful. Attending feasts and campaigning at food stalls and restaurants are not allowed during campaigning in elections.

“If they (the opposing party) are not happy, they can file an election petition.

“So we have to be very careful to not go to places that can be called into question,” the Terengganu menteri besar told reporters when met on the campaign trail at a shopping mall in Kerteh, yesterday.

He was earlier asked about his campaigning, which is often not held in public places like restaurants or food stalls, as done by BN candidate Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor.

Samsuri (above, middle) was also asked to comment on his limited campaigning schedule since he has to run the state administration.

Dubbing it a “reality” he has to face, the PAS vice-president said juggling between the chief executive’s role and an MP’s duty, should he get elected, would not be a problem as he would be assisted by four PN assemblypersons under the Kemaman parliamentary constituency.

On another matter, Samsuri said his campaigning has been going on smoothly - thanks to the PN/PAS machinery.

“In an election, we have to understand that campaigning is not just about the candidate. The machinery matters too.

“The PAS machinery has already been mobilised before the by-election fever hit,” he added. - Mkini
