PETALING JAYA: The two Bangladeshi construction workers who sustained injuries after the roof of a warehouse under construction in Penang collapsed last night are in critical condition.
State executive council member Daniel Gooi said the two men, in their 20s and 30s, are receiving intensive treatment at Penang Hospital, according to Bernama.
It was reported that the two men suffered serious injuries in nearly every part of their bodies.
Three other workers were confirmed dead by the authorities after the logistics warehouse under construction in Batu Maung, Bayan Lepas, collapsed yesterday. Two of them died at the site while another died at the hospital.
As of 3pm, four others are believed to be still buried under the rubble, with a search and rescue operation ongoing.
Nine workers survived unscathed from the incident.
Separately, DHL Supply Chain Malaysia confirmed that the warehouse under construction belongs to the company.
“We can confirm that a building in Bayan Lepas that was under construction has collapsed. Our heartfelt thoughts are with the affected construction workers, their families and loved ones.
“As the local authorities continue their investigation, we will not be able to provide further comments at this time,” a DHL spokesman said when contacted by FMT. - FMT
