No need to take everything to social media, Cuepacs tells Johor MB

PETALING JAYA: Reprimand of civil servants should be done respectfully, and not be excessively publicised on social media to avoid misrepresentation of the actual situation, Cuepacs has told Johor menteri besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

Cuepacs secretary-general Abdul Rahman Nordin said immigration department staff work tirelessly to manage the entry of Malaysian citizens into Singapore and vice versa.

“When the menteri besar visited, it was outside peak hours, and a small number of counters were closed for officer rotation breaks and other administrative duties.

“The officers work tirelessly at the (Causeway) entrance, which is one of the busiest in the world. Criticisms will cause the morale of the officers to decline,” he told FMT in response to the dispute over traffic congestion on the Causeway between Onn Hafiz and the Peninsular Malaysia Immigration Service Union (KPISM).

Rahman said not all issues need to be publicised on social media, as they invite public criticism from netizens.

He said they can be resolved internally, considering Onn Hafiz’s position as chairman of the Causeway’s special traffic congestion task force.

On Sunday, Onn Hafiz expressed disappointment on Facebook that 13 car lane counters were not open to the public the day before, causing congestion.

He said the operation of the national border checkpoint at the Sultan Iskandar Building’s customs, immigration and quarantine complex was still not at full efficiency.

In response, KPISM president Ajeet Singh Gurbax Singh said the congestion was due to shift changes for staff who were waiting to rest after peak hours.

Expressing appreciation for Onn Hafiz’s visit to improve service at the country’s entry points, Ajeet urged him to focus on other issues in Johor such as traffic congestion in general and issues related to the B40 group.

However, Onn Hafiz questioned the union’s response, which he said seemed to ask him to ignore the “big issue” at hand.

Congestion at the Causeway has also caught the attention of Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, who discussed the issue in a meeting with Onn Hafiz and several others on Tuesday. - FMT
