2 e-hailing drivers charged with cheating Prasarana of RM1.1mil

E-hailing drivers Shahrul Nizam Azman and Hafiz Azizi claimed trial and were released on bail.

PETALING JAYA: An e-hailing driver claimed trial at the Kuala Lumpur sessions court today to 61 charges of cheating Prasarana Malaysia Berhad and causing losses of more than RM500,000.

Shahrul Nizam Azman, 34, was charged with cheating Prasarana by making false claims, causing the company to pay RM562,896 into the bank accounts of three firms.

The offences allegedly took place between Jan 8, 2020, and June 19, 2023, at Menara UOA Bangsar.

Shahrul was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code which provides for up to 10 years in prison, whipping, and a fine upon conviction.

Judge Azrul Darus allowed him to post bail of RM46,000 in one surety and also ordered him to surrender his passport to the court.

Deputy public prosecutor Raihanah Abd Razak prosecuted.

In the same court, another e-hailing driver, Hafiz Azizi, pleaded not guilty to 62 counts of a similar charge, also involving Prasarana, with losses amounting to RM555,949.

Hafiz, 39, was charged with committing the offence between Jan 17, 2020 and July 7, 2023.

He was granted bail of RM34,500 in one surety and was also ordered to surrender his passport to the court.

Azrul fixed May 7 for mention of both cases.

Prasarana said both Hafiz and Shahrul were former staff of the company, and that the alleged offences were detected in June last year by its internal audit department.

“We’ve fully cooperated with the police in their investigations,” it said in a statement. - FMT
