KUALA LUMPUR: Forty-two buses have been taken off the road for technical reasons since the 2024 Ops Hari Raya Aidilfitri was implemented on April 1 nationwide.

Road transport department (JPJ) senior enforcement director Lokman Jamaan said they were among the 3,799 buses that were inspected at 54 bus depots and 28 terminals.

“All the 42 buses had committed technical offences and were not allowed to be used,” he said after observing inspections at Terminal Bersepadu Selatan here today.

Lokman said 47 bus drivers have also been issued summonses for various offences, including not having the Competent Driving Licence and using their mobile phones while driving.

Six men – from Sarawak, Kelantan, Perak and Kedah – were also barred from driving on suspicion of taking prohibited substances after failing urine tests.

At the same time, 84 JPJ officers had gone undercover on buses and recorded 62 cases of offences like dangerous driving.

Lokman said the strict enforcement and surprise checks will continue until April 20. - FMT
