Chegubard, Papagomo summoned to give statements over social media posts

PETALING JAYA: Activist Badrul Hisham Shaharin, also known as Chegubard, and blogger Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, who is better known as Papagomo, have been summoned to give their statements on Wednesday (April 17) over certain social media posts.

In a statement on Tuesday (April 16), the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) said Badrul and influencer Mohamad Salim Iskandar will have their statements recorded at its headquarters in Cyberjaya.

Wan Muhammad Azri, meanwhile, will have his statement recorded at the Setapak police station, it said.

"The recording of statements follows complaints regarding content uploaded on social media that has allegedly gone against the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

"The public is advised not to abuse communications services and online applications to spread unverified and fake content," it added.

Earlier Tuesday at Bukit Aman, both Badrul and Salim were visited by a group they claimed was from the MCMC.

"If we do not attend then a warrant will be issued by the magistrate," Badrul said.

"Six to seven people came and asked us for a document that said we agreed to come, and that we will hand over our gadgets.

"This is no longer intimidation but an abuse of power. So Salim and I will be there tomorrow at around 3pm," he added.
