King meets KK Mart founder, gives final warning to all not to incite rakyat

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong granted an audience to KK Mart founder Chai Kee Kan today, with the latter apologising to the monarch and all Muslims over the socks scandal.

In a posting about the meeting, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar also gave a final warning to all not to incite the rakyat over the controversy.

"All must be more responsible. Don't let the same incident happen again, and I hope this is the final time I’m stressing this.

"Once again, I stress, no one should take advantage of this situation, including to incite the rakyat. I don't want this matter to drag on," the king decreed via the Royal Press Office.

Sultan Ibrahim did not mention any names in issuing his warning.

However, one main instigator has been Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh, who has been doggedly pushing for a boycott to punish KK Mart.

Anger towards KK Mart has led to three firebombing attempts on the convenience store's outlets in Perak, Pahang, and Sarawak.

Meanwhile, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong also relayed that all quarters including KK Mart need to be more careful about the products they sell, particularly imported goods, to avoid a repeat of such controversies.

The meeting with Chai, who is better known as KK Chai, lasted for 15 minutes.

KK Mart, the socks supplier, and directors in both companies - including Chai - have been charged for deliberately hurting religious feelings and abetting the act.
