PN will shatter BN-Harapan 'cracked' relationship, says Sanusi

Perikatan Nasional will use the upcoming Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election to shatter the “cracked” relations between parties in government.

This is according to PN election director Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor when asked to comment on MCA and MIC's decisions not to help Pakatan Harapan in the by-election.

"Their relationship is already cracked, so we will work towards making it worse. This is politics," Sanusi (above) told reporters when met after the PN leadership meeting in Kuala Lumpur tonight.

MCA and MIC are components of the BN coalition, which is part of the current unity government led by Harapan.

MIC reportedly said it would not join the by-election campaign if the candidate was not from its coalition.

Following this, MCA also reportedly adopted a similar decision - that it would not join the campaign if the candidate was not from BN.

However, Harapan chairperson Anwar Ibrahim, who is also prime minister, has since refuted reports on MIC’s decision.

Accepting any candidate

Meanwhile, when asked about the PN candidate for the by-election, Sanusi who is also Kedah menteri besar said they will accept whoever the coalition's top leadership chooses.

Sanusi said his recent suggestion that PN should nominate a Malay to contest in the by-election was only a personal view, and he will follow a collective decision.

"When we discuss in a meeting and a decision is reached, then we will follow what the meeting has decided," he said.

Meanwhile, BN secretary-general Zambry Abdul Kadir in a statement said the coalition would not let the opposition win Kuala Kubu Baharu.

"BN is committed to ensuring that any candidate chosen to represent the unity government wins this by-election, using an approach which may be different but viable.

"BN chairperson has given a commitment that BN will support the unity government candidate in this election," he said. - Mkini
