Selangor DAP defends Nga's Hulu Selangor allocation ahead of KKB polls

The Selangor DAP has come to Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming’s defence over the latter’s announcement of an RM5.21 million allocation for Hulu Selangor.

State DAP secretary Ng Sze Han said it was a normal practice and had nothing to do with the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election on May 11 as the announcement was not made during the campaign period.

“The minister already explained that the allocation is a normal practice. After all, the nomination day has not been held yet.

"The minister also went to Terengganu and Kelantan today and gave the same allocation.

“There is no by-election in those places but work to provide allocations to local authorities is still being carried out to improve facilities in their areas,” Ng (above) said at the launch of the Multi-Code Electronics Industries (M) Berhad construction site in Serendah, Selangor, today.

Move criticised

Yesterday, Bernama quoted Nga as saying that RM5.21 million would be given to upgrade public infrastructure facilities under the supervision of the Hulu Selangor Municipal Council (MPHS) and the Chinese New Village Project.

The minister said the allocation included 14 projects worth RM4.82 million to be implemented by the local council and the Village Community Management Council (MPKK).

"Of that amount, RM4.16 million is channelled through MPHS, while RM664,000 is allocated to MPKK in Hulu Selangor," Nga said.

Bersatu leaders Azmin Ali and Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal slammed the announcement, with Azmin calling it “dirty money politics”.

Bersih also criticised the government earlier today, saying it violated the guidelines of the “3C Prohibition: No Conditions, No Campaign, and No Candidates” that Bersih outlined since the 2023 state election.

The guidelines were for the non-interim government (non-caretaker government), such as the federal and state governments in the context of a by-election.

“This action can also be considered as an effort to buy votes and use the government’s undue influence on Kuala Kubu Baharu voters who will cast their votes on May 11,” Bersih’s steering committee said. - Mkini
