PETALING JAYA: Police are investigating the deaths of a 17-year-old and a two-year-old following suspected food poisoning.

In a statement, Gombak police chief Noor Ariffin Nasir said police reports were received on the incidents yesterday.

He said the first case involved a local teenager who had eaten food brought home by his mother from a school programme last Friday.

“After eating the food, the victim and both his parents had diarrhoea,” Ariffin added.

He said the teenager lost consciousness at about 1.30pm yesterday and was rushed to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for emergency treatment where he was pronounced dead by a medical officer.

Investigations on the second case found that the two-year-old girl had eaten food brought home by her father, a security guard, from a programme held at a school on Friday.

On Monday, the girl’s mother found that the victim had a fever, diarrhoea and was vomiting.

The victim’s mother brought her to Selayang Hospital for treatment, where the victim was pronounced dead, said Ariffin.

The remains of both victims have been sent to Selayang Hospital’s forensics department.

Members of the public with information are urged to contact Gombak police station chief Heirme Che Mad at 014-2389151, investigating officer R Khalpna at 012-5018901, or the Gombak police headquarters at 03-61262222.
