IPOH: An elderly man died after being hit by a lorry that was reversing in a factory compound off Jalan Lahat-Simpang Pulai near here yesterday.

Ipoh police chief Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the 44-year-old lorry driver was found to have 100 outstanding traffic summonses in his name, including three for road accidents. Another 10 were issued against the lorry.

Zainal said the 66-year-old pedestrian was behind the vehicle when it began reversing.

“The victim was pronounced dead at the scene from severe chest and abdominal injuries. The lorry driver did not sustain any injuries,” he said in a statement.

Zainal said the body was taken to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here for an autopsy.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving, he added. - FMT
