PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli has accused Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Nor of deliberately making claims to cover up his weaknesses in administering the state.

PETALING JAYA: PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli has challenged Sanusi Nor to file a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over allegations that certain individuals from DAP and PKR are soliciting bribes in Kedah for state projects.

Rafizi said the Kedah menteri besar was deliberately making such claims to cover up his weaknesses in administering the state.

“If he has evidence, he should file a report with MACC tomorrow and nobody will stand in his way. If there are indeed individuals from DAP extorting money and causing projects in his state to stall, then he must report it.

“Don’t use this by-election to spread slander and deceive the Malays. If you can’t do your job, admit it. If there is real evidence, report it to MACC,” Rafizi said at the launch of the unity government’s campaign machinery for the Sungai Bakap by-election last night.

Sanusi, who is also Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) election director, was quoted as claiming that many projects in Kedah had stalled because bribes were not given to certain PKR and DAP representatives.

He reportedly made this allegation during the launch of PN’s Sungai Bakap by-election machinery on Saturday night.

Rafizi, who is also PKR’s election director, said he did not rule out the possibility that Sanusi would continue using such tactics during the election campaign.

“If no report is made to MACC (to prove the validity of the allegations), then be prepared to hear all sorts of stories from Sanusi during this campaign period,” he said.

The Election Commission has set July 6 as polling day for the Sungai Bakap by-election, with nominations to be held on June 22 and early voting on July 2.

The by-election was called following the death of the incumbent, Nor Zamri Latiff, on May 24 due to stomach inflammation.

In the last state election, Nor Zamri, who was PAS Nibong Tebal president, defeated Pakatan Harapan’s Nurhidayah Che Ros with a majority of 1,563 votes. - FMT
