Viral sundry shop brawlers detained

Two men, whose scrimmage in a sundry shop in Penang went viral on social media, have been detained to facilitate an investigation into the incident.

Seberang Perai Tengah district police chief Helmi Haris said the incident, which occurred on Tuesday (June 4), involved a worker from the shop and a customer.

He said the men in their 30s and 40s were arrested between 2.30pm and 11pm last night.

“The incident happened at about 11.50pm (on Tuesday) when two men approached the worker and one of them asked him to fetch alcoholic beverages.

“This led to a misunderstanding and culminated in a fight. The incident prolonged when the customer hit the worker with a (motorcycle) helmet outside of the premises,” Helmi added, according to Bernama.

He said the customer, who was seen in the video being rained with blows and kicks, suffered minor injuries to his face.

Both men have been remanded and the case is being investigated under Section 324 and Section 323 of the Penal Code as well as Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955. - Mkini
