Wan Fayhsal files Dewan Rakyat motion on MAHB takeover

Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal has submitted two motions to the Dewan Rakyat to debate the government’s stance and the interests of the Malaysian people regarding issues related to Palestine.

According to Wan Fayhsal (above), the private motions were submitted to the Dewan Rakyat speaker and secretary under Standing Orders 27(1) and 27(3).

The first motion is to consider and retract the decision to sell Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) to a consortium involving Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), the latter of which is being acquired by Blackrock Inc.

“This motion is very important and necessary as it involves national assets and sovereignty. Blackrock, as a company, has been directly involved in financing the killing of Palestinians at the Gaza border.

“Therefore, the sale of a portion of shares to this company contradicts the stance of the Malaysian government and the general public, who oppose the bombing and killing of Palestinians at the Gaza border,” he said in a letter sent to the parliamentary secretary on Wednesday.

Wan Fayhsal said the second motion is to replace the use of the name Israel with “Occupied State of Palestine”.

Previously, several parties, especially the opposition, objected to a move to privatise MAHB by selling its shares to a consortium comprising the subsidiaries of Khazanah Nasional, Employees Provident Fund, Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, and GIP.

This is because Blackrock, a US multinational investment company, announced last January that it is in the process of acquiring GIP for US$3 billion (approximately RM14 billion) in cash. It expects to close the deal in the third quarter of this year.

Blackrock is the world’s largest asset manager, reportedly having close ties with Israel and holding stakes in manufacturers that supply weapons to Israeli forces. - Mkini
