MELAKA
An electronic waste and electric vehicle (EV) battery collection plant in the Bukit Rambai Industrial Area was destroyed in a fire here today.

The Melaka fire and rescue department said the factory caught fire at about 12.50pm and that there were no casualties. Thirty firefighters from five stations were dispatched to put out the fire, with efforts ongoing as of 5pm.

When the first fire engine arrived at the scene at around 12.56pm, about 90% of the premises had already been engulfed in flames.

In a Facebook post, senior executive councillor Rais Yasin said he has ordered the relevant authorities, including the environment department, to conduct a thorough inspection of the plant, including its operating licence.

He wants the agencies to ensure the plant is operating legally, following safety procedures and complying with the stipulated regulations. - FMT
