Melaka Tengah police chief Christopher Patit said the victim, a pensioner, was jogging at about 8.30am when the suspect, 40, attempted to provoke him by throwing firecrackers towards his house.
The 65-year-old retiree ignored him and continued jogging but decided to confront the neighbour after his run, Bernama reported.
During the exchange, both parties spat at each other’s faces, Patit said.
The suspect then took an iron rod and struck the victim on his left knee, before a scuffle ensued between them.
He said the suspect was arrested at about 1pm after the pensioner lodged a police report.
“The incident is believed to have stemmed from an old grudge, as the suspect once reprimanded the retiree for his noisy karaoke singing, which annoyed the suspect and his family.
“Since then, both parties have not spoken to each other,” he said.
The suspect was initially remanded until today but police have obtained a second remand order until April 10.
The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for intentionally causing hurt with a weapon. - FMT
