MCMC opens 4 probe papers into pair, including ‘political influencer’

PETALING JAYA: 

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission has opened four investigation papers into two individuals, including a political influencer, for uploading social media content that allegedly touch on the 3Rs (race, religion and royalty).

MCMC said both suspects gave their statements at its headquarters in Cyberjaya to assist in the investigation into the social media posts, which were purportedly false or offensive.

It said one of the suspects was an influencer and political activist who raised racial sentiment online involving the Perak state anthem, the takeover of Kuala Lumpur Tower’s operations, as well as Petronas and Gas Malaysia Bhd.

“A handphone and SIM card belonging to the suspect have been seized for a forensic analysis to be held,” it said in a statement.

The suspect is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities.

MCMC said the other suspect was being investigated for another offence, but did not elaborate further. The individual’s handphone has also been seized by the cops. - FMT
