Japan warns of tsunami waves up to 3m after quake off Russian coast

 The weather agency issues the advisory after a magnitude-8.0 earthquake strikes off Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula.

TOKYO:

 Japan’s weather agency issued a tsunami advisory on Wednesday of up to three metres on its Pacific coasts after a Magnitude-8.0 earthquake struck off Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula.

“A tsunami advisory has been issued as of 08:37 (2337 GMT) on July 30,” the Japan Meteorological Agency said on X, warning that “tsunamis will strike repeatedly. Do not enter the sea or approach the coast until the warning is lifted.”

The waves were expected to hit between 10am and 11.30am (0100-0230 GMT) along Japan’s Pacific coast, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said. - FMT
