Pakatan Harapan urges BN, GRS to honour seat pacts ahead of Sabah polls

PAKATAN Harapan (PH) has called on BN and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) to respect seat allocations under their respective electoral agreements and avoid contesting constituencies designated for PH.

Sabah PKR chief Datuk Mustapha Sakmud stressed that once a seat is assigned to PH, it must remain exclusive. He cited Inanam as an example, insisting neither BN nor GRS should field candidates there.

“Our principle is clear. Once a seat is agreed for Pakatan, let’s say Inanam, Barisan should not contest, and GRS should not contest. The seats must be exclusive to Pakatan,” he said.

PH is eyeing at least 13 seats under PKR, while negotiations continue with GRS, which has offered 18 seats compared to PH’s request for 23.

Meanwhile, talks with BN are near conclusion, with the coalition expected to contest between 40 and 44 of the 73 state seats.

BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi confirmed BN will not contest all seats, but more than the 14 won in 2020, and will also work with a third force to strengthen its chances. He did not clarify which parties might form a “third force.”

Zahid Hamidi said seat negotiations with PH in Sabah will only be finalised once the state assembly is dissolved to avoid clashes.

The Sabah assembly’s term ends on Nov 11, and an election must be held within 60 days unless dissolved earlier. — Focus Malaysia
