THE Ministry of Transport has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the welfare of taxi, rental car and school bus drivers nationwide through the Self-Employment Social Security Scheme (SKSPS), also known as LINDUNG Kendiri.
For this year, RM3.5 mil has been allocated to subsidise their contributions under the scheme. Transport Minister Anthony Loke stressed that the funding did not come from government allocations but from proceeds of the sales of Special Registration Numbers (Nombor Plat Istimewa or NPI).
Loke explained that revenue from the NPI programme has enabled the ministry to carry out more welfare initiatives while enhancing road safety.
“It is the proceeds from the sale of special registration numbers (NPI) that enable the Ministry to implement more welfare and road safety initiatives. This effort will continue so that the resources can be channelled to those who truly need them,” he said.
He also urged all stakeholders to prioritise safety and wellbeing in line with the government’s aspirations. “Let us together prioritise safety and wellbeing, in order to build a safer and more resilient Malaysia MADANI,” Loke added. - Focus Malaysia
