KUALA LUMPUR: The soldier involved in an alleged drink-driving crash on the Maju Expressway (MEX), which killed a Bangladeshi man, will be charged with murder at the magistrate's court tomorrow.

He said the charge would be framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Earlier, Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar told Harian Metro that the soldier could also face additional charges under other provisions for causing injuries to other victims in the incident.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (TEID) chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the remand of the 31-year-old suspect, who holds the rank of captain, was set to expire tomorrow.

He is believed to have been driving under the influence of alcohol when the crash occurred at 5.38am at Km1.9 of the expressway, from Salak Selatan towards Jalan Tun Razak.

The suspect allegedly veered into the opposite lane before colliding with an e-hailing vehicle.

He is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years, and whipping if the death penalty is not imposed.

The victim, identified as Muzahid Millad, 22, a popular gaming content creator known as "Advance Gaming", was killed after the e-hailing vehicle he was travelling in with his wife was struck by a Ford Fiesta driven by the suspect.

The couple had been travelling from Kuala Lumpur International Airport to the city.

The victim's wife, the e-hailing driver and the suspect's female companion were injured in the crash.

Police said breathalyser tests on the suspect showed alcohol levels above the legal limit. - NST
