Hadi: Muslims must lead, but others need not worry

Muslims must lead Malaysia and hold all core positions in government because Muslims are the "dominant" force in Malaysia, said PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.

However, he added that the country’s non-Muslim minorities need not worry,

"In Malaysia, Muslim Malays who are the dominant race who must be appointed to leadership positions due to Islam's position in the Federal Constitution and that the monarchy consists of Muslims.

"The same goes for key positions in the country such as the judiciary, administration, security and defence because of the prestige these positions bring.

"This ‘kehaibatan’ (prestige) is lost if (these positions) are left to other races which are not dominant," said Hadi in a statement yesterday.

However, he said that non-Muslims need not worry because they are guaranteed justice and rights in accordance to the Quran and the Federal Constitution.

"If this aspect (Muslims as the country’s leaders) is disturbed, it can threaten the position of everything," said Hadi.

Reject those who oppose Islam

He said what was of concern today was that there are political parties and individuals who are trying to challenge the position of Islam, the monarchy and Muslim-Malay special rights.

This could cause tensions and destroy relationships, warned Hadi.

"There are also stupid Muslims who are ‘beraliran bebas’ (independent thinkers) who have lost their Islamic and ethnic identity.

"They too are destroying the concept and role of 'dominance'. All ethnic and religious groups must reject them in the coming general election for the benefit of all," said Hadi.

He stressed that Muslim Malays must incorporate Islam in their politics as Islam is the core of the country's multi-ethnic society and forms the foundation of Malaysia's leadership.

"Malays are dominant and Islam is fair to all...

"Jika Melayu bersama Islam semuanya selamat, Melayu tanpa Islam semuanya tidak selamat (If Malays are with Islam, all is safe. Malays without Islam (means) all will not be safe)," he stressed. - Mkini
