MANY in the government today are shameless, despite being accused of stealing and being corrupt, they just smile and think everything is okay, said Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
In his latest blog posting, dripping with sarcasm, the Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman said those in the government knew nothing of the wrong they had committed.
“When found stealing, they are not even a little ashamed. When accused of stealing and proved to be a thief, it is also okay.
“The world calls them thieves, corrupt and robbers, it is fine. Just smile,” he said in the article posted on his blog.
Dr Mahathir did not mention names but it was understood that this latest barb was meant for Prime Minister Najib Razak, whom he had been attacking over the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal, and some other government leaders who have defended him.
The former prime minister said it seemed to not matter that due to their actions, the country had been insulted and labelled as among the 10 most corrupt nations.
“The country is called a kleptocracy, led by a thief who stole government funds. The country is no longer a democracy – still, no matter.
“The prime minister, wife, child, friend accused of misappropriating the country’s funds – okay. Ministers, top officials accused of stealing money – fine.
“They are not a bit ashamed, even when they refused to sue their accusers of defamation. They threatened legal action, but did nothing. Shameless,” he said.
Dr Mahathir said people who were given appointments and promotions without following the law, even though they did not qualify for the job, were also shameless.
Those who brown-nosed to earn positions and did whatever the boss wanted them to do were also shameless, he said.
“Accepting stolen money, what’s wrong about that? Thank you. Kiss the hand of the person who delivered the windfall,” he said.
The former Umno president, who quit the party to form his own Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) last year, said as long as there were money and positions to gain, they no longer cared about dignity, the disgust of the people, and being insulted and looked down on.
“Because of such people, the race will become ‘bangsat’ (lost and powerless) in their own country. Soon, they will lose the country, become squatters in their own country where their descendants will become coolies.
“But that is alright because the shameless will feel no shame about becoming beggars and coolies in their own country,” he said.
