The chief of an association of village chiefs has blown the war horn and urged villagers nationwide to "attack" the "lies" of former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
Coalition of Village Chief Association president Shahaimi Othman said there will be no defence whatsoever.
"No defence, all attack... We will attack (the lies) in every village, every slander will be attacked," Shahaimi said.
He was speaking to village development and safety committees from across the country who were in Kuala Lumpur for an awards ceremony.
Najib was present to officiate the event.
Mahathir, who is the chairperson of opposition pact Pakatan Harapan, is currently on the warpath against Najib, saying he and BN must both be defeated in the next general elections to save the country from corruption.
Later in his speech, Najib called on the village chiefs to expand their roles from those who ensured development, to those who can fight slander on social media in the "war of perception".
The prime minister said he was often a victim of social media attacks.
Earlier during his speech, Shahaimi pledged full support for the current government.
He also showered Najib with praise, saying the prime minister had a golden touch as all the SEA games competitions he attended ended with Malaysia picking up the gold.
Near the end of his speech, the village chief of chiefs asked Najib for incentives including an additional RM10,000 annual allocation for JKKKs.
This request prompted a laugh from Najib, who shook his head.
Najib later did not announce in compliance with the request but unveiled other incentives instead.
They included group life insurance for JKKK members, and discount cards for them to use at various avenues including for dining and hotel bookings. - Mkini
