MELAKA: A father, furious that his 15-year-old football player son was reprimanded by a teacher for buying fried "ayam potong" before a soccer match last year, has been charged with slapping the teacher at a magistrate's court here on Wednesday.
Kamarul Ariffin Suboh, 44, from Taman Saujana Indah in Bukit Katil, claimed trial to intentionally causing harm to Muhammad Fakharudin Azahar, 27, a physical education teacher at SMK Bukit Katil.
The accused was alleged to have committed the offence at 3pm on April 26, 2018, at Padang 10 in Krubong, some 16km away from his son's school.
The charge, filed under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, carries a jail sentence of up to a year, or a fine up to RM2,000, or both if convicted.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Intan Lyiana Zainal Abidin suggested that bail be fixed at RM8,000 with one surety.
Kamarul Ariffin, who was unrepresented, asked for the bail to be fixed at RM1,000 because he had many dependents.

The accused works as an assistant at a hardware shop and has a wife and five children.
Magistrate Muhammad Nazrin Ali Rahim allowed bail at RM2,000 with one surety and fixed March 6 for re-mention.- Star
