CAMERON POLLS | Cameron Highlands Gerakan chief Ho Kip Yap admits that he has landed in hot water with his party leaders after acting as the proposer for BN candidate Ramli Mohd Nor in the Cameron Highlands by-election.
However, Ho defended his decision, stating that Gerakan needed to take cognisance of BN's role as the government in Pahang.
"Since Gerakan is not contesting (in the by-election), I decided to nominate him (Ramli).
"I was once a BN assemblyperson so until now I still support BN. We have to know that this is a BN state where the land and farms are under the BN government," he told Malaysiakini.
Ho had raised eyebrows when he turned up at the nomination centre in Tanah Rata this morning for Ramli. Gerakan had quit BN in June last year.
Ho admitted that he had acted as proposer without informing his party leaders.
"They did not know, I thought it was just a small matter since we are not contesting," he said.
He acknowledged that fellow party members are now upset at him for the move.
He said some party members had pushed for Gerakan to contest in the by-election.
"But the Gerakan division here and I are not in favour of it. If the party contests here, the situation would be miserable," he said.
Ho stressed that Gerakan will not be campaigning for BN in the by-election. - Mkini
