LET ME BE ‘PUBLIC ENEMY NO.1’: JOHOR CROWN PRINCE VOWS TO KEEP ‘SPEAKING UP’ – BUT IS HE SPEAKING FOR HIS OWN FAMILY INTERESTS OR FOR THE PEOPLE?

JOHOR Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim has vowed to “keep speaking up” for the people in 2019 against the federal government’s weaknesses and mistakes, even if it makes him “public enemy No. 1”.
The vocal royal did not name Pakatan Harapan but referred to it by saying he really wanted the government to be succeed, to cease its internal fighting and to start governing.
“I’m sorry. I really want the government to be successful. I wake up everyday hoping to be wrong. But, they keep proving me right.
“Please… Please start Governing. Please stop fighting amongst each other, Please stop politicising every issue,” he said on his Facebook page.
Tunku Ismail said he had spoken up against the Barisan Nasional government when it was in power and made mistakes and would do the same now.
“No difference. Just wanting the best for the people. Some may not like what I say but that’s the challenge. To keep speaking up for the rakyat who can’t.
“Let me be public enemy No. 1 if I have to be.”
After nine months in federal power, the PH government while still mostly popular with non-Malay voters, is struggling to maintain and increase Malay support amid claims that it has neglected rural folk.
The government announced allocations for rubber smallholders, Felda settlers and B40 schoolchildren before the new year.
PH is also beset with infighting in two component parties – PKR and Bersatu.
Tunku Ismail acknowledged that the government sometimes made mistakes and urged Putrajaya to “get it right” in 2019.
“Sometimes I get it wrong. Everyone makes mistakes. For the mistakes that I’ve made, I’m sorry. I think we all should reflect on 2018 and be sorry for the wrongs.
“Well it’s 2019, let’s get it right now. Let’s politicise less. Let’s popularise less over social media. Let’s make better decisions.  Let’s cooperate and accept each other’s space and duty. Let’s serve the people and deliver the best for our country.”
