Maglin to Kayveas: Hands off MyPPP logo or we'll alert EC

MyPPP leader Maglin Dennis D'Cruz (above) has warned that his faction will alert the EC if rival faction leader M Kayveas contests the coming Cameron Highlands by-election under the party's banner.
At a press conference at Kuala Lumpur today, D'Cruz, who appeared livid with disputed party president Kayveas' announcement that he will contest, insisted that Kayveas is not the president following his sacking.
"We followed the constitution. The supreme council held a disciplinary committee meeting and removed him as a member after he was found to have breached many provisions in the constitution.
"As such, he's automatically not the president anymore," said D'Cruz.
D'Cruz explained that Article 10.5 of the party's constitution gave power to the supreme council to suspend or sack a member on the grounds that the member had tarnished or affected the integrity of the party.
"Article 32.1 further states that the decision of the supreme council is final and cannot be disputed."
However, in a recent interview, Kayveas insisted that he was still MyPPP president.
He claimed that the ROS had recognised him as the legitimate president and had instructed him to meet with D'Cruz to "settle" the issue.
D'Cruz denied this, telling Malaysiakini that Kayveas was the one who first approached ROS with the idea of settling the issue.
"Three times we met, but nothing (came out of it). To me, the president's seat is still empty."
D'Cruz stated that his faction had no problem with Kayveas contesting in the by-election as long as he did not use MyPPP's name or logo.
"If he proceeds, we will dispute it and write to the EC."
On Jan 6, Kayveas claimed that his candidacy had the full support of the MyPPP supreme council.
However, D'Cruz said that those in the supreme council who supported Kayveas were also not recognised as party members.
"(The party has) 6,000 members and you can't even gather 30 people to put in your supreme council? You just bring new people and put them there," D'Cruz said, adding that Kayveas had confused the public with his antics. - Mkini
