PETALING JAYA: The finance ministry has given special approval for the procurement of Dual Language Programme (DLP) science textbooks through direct negotiations because it was concerned the delay would affect students sitting for their PT3 examination.
The ministry said the special approval was given on Sept 18 last year for the speedy procurement of the books for Form 3 students.
It said it was concerned with the welfare of the students and had taken appropriate action in facilitating the procurement and financial procedures to ensure that they receive their textbooks on time.
“The ministry will always consider any application from any ministry or agency for direct negotiation procurement to meet a critical and urgent need, especially in matters involving the interest and welfare of the people,” it said in a statement today.
It was in response to reports that parents were worried over the delay in the release of the textbooks.
Earlier reports have said that many parents had expressed displeasure over the education ministry’s announcement that DLP science and maths textbooks would only be available in March.
They said the delay in the distribution of the books was causing unnecessary distress to the students. - FMT
