Muhyiddin denies Ramkarpal’s allegation

PETALING JAYA: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (pic) has issued a strongly worded reply in response to Ramkarpal Singh’s claim that the Home Minister has failed to get the police to reopen the investigation into the death of Teoh Beng Hock.
“I vehemently deny Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh’s allegation,” Muhyiddin said.
The Home Minister also said that during a post-Cabinet meeting on June 27, he had informed his ministry of the Cabinet’s decision to reopen the case and instructed the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to take immediate action.
“The police have formed a task force led by DCP K. Manoharan to investigate the matter pursuant to my instruction and a letter from the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC).
The Attorney General, he added, had issued certain instructions to the task force on Dec 17, and thus “the investigation is still ongoing”.
“Therefore, there is no truth to his allegation that I failed to instruct the IGP to reopen Teoh’s case.
“As an MP, he should have been more careful in making any statement, especially involving members of the government administration. I deeply regret such a statement,” Muhyiddin said.
Teoh was found dead on July 16, 2009, on the fifth floor corridor of Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam after giving a statement at the Selangor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission office on the 14th floor of the building.
An aide to DAP leader and then Selangor exco member Ean Yong Hian Wah, Teoh was 30 when he died.- Star
