KUALA LUMPUR: Najib Razak today accused a DAP leader of insulting the intelligence of the Orang Asli, over a claim that he was trying to fool the indigenous community into believing he was still the prime minister.
“If DAP leaders say the Orang Asli still think I am prime minister, it degrades the intelligence of the Orang Asli,” Najib said during an event with his supporters here.
“The Orang Asli are smarter than that, they are more aware,” Najib said.
Speaking at a campaign dinner event in Cameron Highlands yesterday, DAP political education director Liew Chin Tong said many Orang Asli were still not aware of the change of government after the elections last year.
“They think that Najib Razak is still the prime minister, and Najib, in turn acts like he is still the PM when he visits these areas.”
The deputy defence minister also claimed that Barisan Nasional could easily “fool” Orang Asli voters because their villages lacked proper communication facilities.
Najib today said the Orang Asli were longing for BN.
Meanwhile, Najib said he became active on Facebook because the media “don’t publish my stories”.
Saying he was not bothered by this, the Pekan MP said he had to come up with more “creative ways” to reach out to the youth through the social media.
Greeting his supporters at a cafe in Damansara today, the former leader said the economy this year would take a hit, adding that a big chunk of revenue was lost following the government’s decision to abolish the goods and services tax (GST).
He spent time today signing autographs on T-shirts bearing his latest tagline “Bossku”, a form of address popular among Sabahans. - FMT
