PETALING JAYA: UiTM Holdings Sdn Bhd has confirmed that it is closing down the Intekma Resort and Convention Centre (IRCC) in Shah Alam, following a report by FMT today quoting a circular to employees.
The company also confirmed that staff of the hotel, which began operations 30 years ago, will be laid off.
But it said some employees would be retained to fill critical positions or transferred to fill other vacancies.
The company said the hotel had been facing operational and financial problems, including Intekma’s “ageing facilities” which it said were no match for the increasingly competitive hotel industry in Shah Alam.
It also clarified that the hotel’s closure would not affect hospitality students of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), as it does not serve as a training hotel.
“UiTM operates its own hospitality chain under the brand of Hotel UiTM that serves as the training facility for UiTM students and is managed by the Faculty of Hotel and Tourism Management.
“As such, the closure of Intekma does not affect students’ training.”
A circular dated Jan 10 had stated that the 3-star hotel would be completely shut down by end of March. - FMT
