UiTM insists on retaining ‘Bumiputera only’ policy

SHAH ALAM: Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) vice-chancellor Prof Emeritus Hassan Said says the university will keep to its original policy of admitting only Malay and Bumiputera students.
He said the policy was still relevant given that many Malays and Bumiputeras, especially those from underprivileged families in rural areas, still need UiTM.
“We see UiTM has had a huge impact on the unity of ‘bangsa Malaysia’.
“UiTM is still relevant in contributing towards that goal. So, it is not the time for us to change the policy,” he told a media conference here today.
Hassan was asked to comment on a suggestion by UiTM’s former pro-chancellor Arshad Ayub on Wednesday that admission into UiTM be opened to non-Bumiputeras for postgraduate courses to ensure a competitive environment. -FMT
