Husband and wife killed when tanker loses control, crashes into drain

GERIK: A couple were killed when the tanker they were in lost control and crashed into a drain at KM12 of the Gerik-Jeli East-West Highway here.

Gerik OCPD Superintendent Ismail Che Isa said the 34-year-old driver, Muhammad Fazil Muhamad, from Chemor, died on the spot in the 7am accident on Monday (March 25), while his 31-year-old wife, Saadiah Mohd Rezal from Parit, died at the Gerik Hospital.

Supt Ismail said both succumbed from head injuries.

"The driver was found trapped in the vehicle. Medical personnel confirmed his death there. The wife died from the injuries at the hospital after being rushed there," he added.

Supt Ismail said the couple's two daughters, Nurul Syazwani Amani, eight, and Nurul Syazwana Ariyana, six, had also travelled with them, with the eldest suffering injuries to her right leg.

"The younger sister was unharmed. The case will be investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act for reckless driving, causing deaths," he said.
