Khalid: Consensus reached on Jalan TAR partial closure

DETAILS on the plan to close part of Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman (Jalan TAR) will be announced by Tuesday (March 12), says Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad.
He said a second engagement session with the stakeholders had been organised in Menara DBKL 1 and achieved a consensus on how the new traffic plan would be executed.
“About eight representatives from the Batu Road Retailers Association (Barra) and the Masjid India Business Association (Miba) gave their ideas and we want to thank them for it.
“Apart from an online survey by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), we also surveyed on the ground.
“There will be changes with respect to the Ramadan bazaar and night market, among others. Hopefully all the changes will be for the better,” he said when met at Menara DBKL 1 on Friday (March 8).
Khalid announced that part of Jalan TAR, from the Jalan Esfahan junction to the Jalan Melayu junction, would be closed to traffic beginning March 15, except for buses.
He also said that if the transition was successful, the area would be used to relocate the festive bazaar that was traditionally set up along Jalan Masjid India.
The news received mixed reaction with Barra and Miba demanding that they be consulted prior to implementation.- Star
