SYED Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has leapt to the defence of Dr Mahathir Mohamad, calling the prime minister a workaholic who puts the country first.
The Bersatu Youth chief took to Twitter in defence of his 93-year-old party chairman, who had come under attack by former PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar.
“He is a workaholic who never stops working.
“He listens to everyone’s views, regardless of how young you are. He loves unconventional ideas.
“He has the moral courage to do things that no one else would. He always puts Malaysia first, even if it means sacrificing himself. That’s Tun (Dr Mahathir).”
Syed Saddiq, who is also youth and sports minister, posted the series of tweets after Nurul Izzah, in an interview with Singapore’s Straits Times, described Dr Mahathir as a former dictator who had caused much damage to her family and the nation.
The Permatang Pauh MP also said she is “heartbroken” by the Pakatan Harapan government’s slow delivery of its promised reforms.
Her comments generated debate on social media, with some users lauding the “Puteri Reformasi” and others taking potshots.
PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali tweeted that the country needs “doers”, not “crybabies”.
Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, from the same party, replied: “When a lady makes a stand, you call her a crybaby? Cheap, very cheap.”
