KUALA LUMPUR — Tears and smiles of joy broke the tension as the title of Miss Universe Malaysia 2019 fell on 22 year-old Shwetajeet Kaur during the pageant’s Gala Night, held Mar 7 at the Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur.
The first runner-up title went to 25 year-old Yaw Hui Jing, the second runner-up is 23 year-old Tessminderjit Kaur and the third runner-up is 25 year-old Lee Su Hsien.
The night was the grand finale for this year's Pageant Week, which took place a week before, where 18 finalists competed for the coveted title.
On the night itself, on top of the top ten positions there are also six subsidiary titles — Miss Glojas Beautiful, Miss Tiew Dental Winning Smile, Miss Auto Bavaria Elegance, Miss La Jung Youthful Forever, Miss Habib and the coveted title of the Face of MUCA.
During the preliminary round, that was held Mar 4 at Zouk Kuala Lumpur, contestant 26 year-old Jean Kueh won both titles of Miss Congeniality and Miss Babel Body Beautiful, while Miss Duchess & Co. Online Personality title went to 23 year-old Nikita Menon and the Miss Miko Galere Exceptional Coiffure to 25 year-old Rebecca Chan.
The event attended by over 800 leading personalities from local business, media, fashion and entertainment industries. It was hosted by Miss Universe Malaysia 2004 Andrea Fonseka together with actor and television host Hansen Lee.
Miss Universe Malaysia Organization (MUMO) national director Elaine Daly in her speech said, “Our theme “Beauty Beyond You” speaks of the true spirit of this competition, where young women are are given the opportunity to shine and at the same time, champion a cause that she is passionate about.”
Daly added that the winner should not only possess outer beauty but inner as well, in order to stand out from the rest. The crowning took place just minutes before the dawning of International Women's Day this year.
As the winner Shwetajeet will get the chance to travel abroad to represent the country in the upcoming Miss Universe pageant, cash and sponsored prizes that come to a combined value of RM180,000 and a full education scholarship from HELP University.
The pageant is also presented by partners Auto Bavaria, La Jung Aesthetic Clinic and Malaysia Airlines. Habib Jewels is the official jewellery partner. MUMO is owned by MyEG.- Star
