The management of the Ar-Rahman Mosque in Universiti Malaya has lodged a police report over a meet-and-greet session by former premier Najib Abdul Razak, which is set to be held at the site tomorrow afternoon.
In the report sighted by Malaysiakini, the management said that it had lodged a complaint in order to protect itself in case any untoward incident occurred during the programme.
The mosque’s management claimed it had not been notified about the event, titled “Sembang Santai Bossku with UM students”.
Meanwhile, Lembah Pantai Amanah chief Hishamuddin A Hamid reportedly called the programme an abuse of a house of worship for “cheap propaganda”.
“Such a programme could be cheap propaganda spread following the loss of the group which supports the old establishment in the recent UM campus elections,” he was quoted as saying by Malaysia Dateline.
Hishamuddin urged the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) to intervene in the matter to preserve the sanctity of the mosque.
“We believe that Jawi should act so that the sanctity of the mosque is not tarnished by the interests of certain quarters.
“We leave the matter to the authorities to deal with according to the rule of law,” he reportedly said.
