Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim's family will not be asking the woman who claimed to be a nurse with the National Heart Institute (IJN) to testify in the inquest to determine the firefighter's cause of death, said their lawyer Kamaruzaman A Wahab.
He told Malaysiakini that the woman, identified only as Miera, did not have sufficient expertise in forensics to assist the Coroner's Court to determine how Adib sustained his injuries during the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple riot on Nov 27 last year.
He was commenting on the nurse's viral social media post, which she has since retracted, disputing Hospital Kuala Lumpur's (HKL) forensics medical specialist Dr Ahmad Hafizam Hasmi's testimony.
Last Friday, Ahmad had told the inquest that the firefighter's injuries were more likely caused by the impact of a vehicle hitting him, as opposed to being beaten.
Kamaruzaman said the nurse's knowledge is not as “deep and complete” as that of a forensics expert.
“Even though we do not agree with the testimony (by Ahmad), it would not be appropriate to rely on the testimony of a nurse (to counter Ahmad's testimony).
“Even if we wish to fight (dispute the testimony), we would rather rely on other forensic experts.
“We are discussing the feasibility of calling an expert witness from outside HKL. In the meantime, let us hear first (the rest of Ahmad’s testimony),” he added.
Ahmad is scheduled to resume his testimony before Coroner Rofiah Mohamad at the Shah Alam court tomorrow.
Yesterday, it was reported that Kangar MP Noor Amin Ahmad lodged a police reportagainst Umno supreme council member Lokman Noor Adam in relation to the woman's post.
Lokman had accused the PKR lawmaker of threatening the nurse.
According to her initial post, the woman claimed that she saw Adib covered with bruises which were consistent with an assault.
After the post went viral, Amin contacted her and asked her to testify at the inquest. - Mkini
