Nurul Izzah resigns PAC post

Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar has resigned from the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
Malaysiakini understands that the PKR lawmaker has submitted her resignation to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Mohd Ariff Md Yusof, PAC chief Ronald Kiandee, and Pakatan Harapan chief whip Johari Abdul.
Her resignation comes amid a divide within Pakatan Harapan over the PAC leadership.
The coalition had promised to have the PAC headed by an opposition lawmaker.
However, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had insisted that Ronald need not resign from his post after joining Bersatu.
This means that for the first time since 2004, both top two positions in the PAC are held by the government. DAP's Wong Kah Woh is the current deputy chairperson.
Nurul Izzah had spoken out against the government's move to hold on to the PAC chair.
"The chairperson of the PAC must be filled by the opposition to pursue accountability of the executive.
"The current Speaker has clearly outlined intent to institutionalise reforms – to ensure Parliament is on equal footing to the executive. Will remind him to do so for the PAC," the Permatang Pauh MP tweeted last week.
Last December, Nurul Izzah had quit as PKR vice-president citing her ideals and principles. - Mkini
