Prosecution wants CJ to postpone 1MDB case to 'give way' for SRC trial

The prosecution in former premier Najib Abdul Razak's SRC International case will write to Chief Justice Richard Malanjum to request for the SRC International case to be given priority over the 1MDB matter, said a source.
The source told Malaysiakini that Malanjum's decision must be obtained before the Kuala Lumpur High Court starts hearing the SRC case next Wednesday.
“This means we have to deliver it (the letter) on time for the chief justice to make a decision,” added the source.
The source said the prosecution is hoping that Malanjum would postpone the dates for the 1MDB case in order to “give way” for the SRC trial.
Yesterday, the High Court set next Wednesday for the commencement of the SRC trial following the Federal Court's decision to set aside a stay order on proceedings.
However, the High Court did not set subsequent dates for the SRC trial as Najib is also due to stand trial for his 1MDB-related charges between April 15 and May 3.
The SRC International hearing was initially slated to begin on Feb 12 but had been delayed pending disposal of several appeals that were filed by Najib.
Last week, a three-member Court of Appeal had granted an application by defence counsel Harvinderjit Singh to stay the SRC International hearing.
This came after the appellate court dismissed three out of four appeals by Najib, namely to have a gag order placed upon the media to prohibit discussion of his case, wanting more documents for the case, and questioning the transfer of the case from the Sessions Court to the High Court.
The former premier is facing three money laundering charges linked to SRC International for allegedly receiving illegal proceeds of RM42 million, three counts of criminal breach of trust, and one count of abuse of power for receiving the monies. - Mkini
