PETALING JAYA: Malaysia is looking at developing a drone-embedded unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), following discussions with a leading aircraft landing and braking systems company.
The entrepreneur development ministry is also arranging for the company, Safran Landing Systems, to meet with several Malaysian small medium enterprises (SME) involved in the aerospace industry.
“This is for prospective partnership opportunities on the next level of drone-UAV technology,” the ministry said in a statement, following a meeting with Safran at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2019 (LIMA’19) here today.
Entrepreneur Development Minister Redzuan Yusof also attended the CEOs’ roundtable meeting between the Malaysia Aerospace Industry Association (MAIA) and the French Aerospace Association (Gifas) as part of its continuous effort to closely collaborate with industry players to develop the Malaysian aerospace SME ecosystem.
Economic Affairs Minister Azmin Ali also attended the meeting.
Among the potential areas of collaboration between the ministry and Gifas include developing Malaysian SME capability, based on programmes implemented by Gifas for French aerospace SME.
“The ministry is also considering potential joint ventures in terms of technology and digitalisation, development of SME-level supply chain and high-skilled workforce, use of a common digital platform for Malaysian SME, as well as upgrading SMEs’ capability in cybersecurity for secure data interchange platform.”
The ministry also held discussions with Airbus and Thales on how local SMEs in the supply chain can leverage on the current developments for Industry 4.0, particularly through the offset programme.
