Sarawakian Michael Garing was executed at the Changi Prison in Singapore this morning.
Bernama quoted the Malaysian High Commission in Singapore as confirming the matter.
Michael was convicted of murder by the Singapore High Court in 2015 and sentenced to death after he was found to be part of a gang that severely injured three persons and killed a fourth in a slashing spree in Kallang, Singapore, in 2010.
Another suspect, Tony Imba, was sentenced to life in prison. Michael's conviction was affirmed by the Court of Appeal in 2017.
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad told a press conference in Parliament that the government is striving to save the 30-year-old.
On the same day, Michael's family also filed a clemency petition to the President of Singapore, pleading for his death sentence to be commuted to life imprisonment. - Mkini
