Former MCA president Ling Liong Sik is unperturbed by Umno and PAS' union, saying it is just part of human nature.
"When you are young, don’t you quarrel with your boyfriend, your sister or your cousin over something?
"Surely you played with their toy and they didn’t like it and you fought? And then become friends again later?”
"It is human nature to get together and then to break up. It is nothing strange. I leave it to them," Ling said at a press conference when asked what he thought of PAS and Umno becoming allies.
PAS was formed in 1951 as a breakaway by Umno’s clerical faction, and the two parties were also in government together from 1972 until 1977 when PAS joined Barisan Nasional.
However, for decades the two were bitter rivals until they teamed up recently to fight against Pakatan Harapan following the 2018 general election.
They formalised their alliance last week by establishing a working committee. - Mkini
