GEORGE TOWN: The People's Housing Project (PPR) saga has taken an interesting twist after a woman, who is part of the group protesting eviction from her flat, was identified as a MAS business class traveller.
Khalidah Nazir Ahmad, 63, who has been staying at the low-cost PPR flats in Taman Manggis on a rental of RM124, travelled on business class during a trip to Colombo, Sri Lanka in May 18, 2014.
Photos of her Facebook posting on the flight have gone viral.
Her ticket, which was posted on Facebook, showed that she was a frequent traveller and, as such, was entitled to an upgrade to business class.
When approached, Khalidah, who was one of the people staging the sit-in at Komtar after being evicted, said she was working in a travel agency and was travelling with her husband who was an accounts clerk and part-time limousine driver.
"However, I got the upgrade because my brother, who has a retail shop, transferred his mileage points to me.
"What has this got to do with the predicament I am in now? And people should mind their own business," she said.
About 50 people from eight PPR units in Jalan Zainal Abidin have been staging a sit-in protest since Wednesday (March 6) when their six-day reprieve ended.
It was reported that the occupants of 22 government flats, whose household income had exceeded the maximum, were given a six-day reprieve to vacate their homes.- Star
