PETALING JAYA: The government's move to lower haj subsidy is a sad news for pilgrims, who are still waiting for their turns to perform the fifth pillar of Islam, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The Umno president said the previous Barisan Nasional government would always ensure that sufficient subsidies were given to pilgrims performing their haj for the first time.
“The first-timers who took the Muassasah package only had to pay RM9,980, while there are also high dividend returns for Tabung Haji depositors during Barisan’s time.
“The capabilities of the current Pakatan Harapan government in helping the rakyat by giving sufficient haj subsidy and ensuring high dividend returns must be questioned,” he said in a Facebook post on Thursday (March 21).
The Bagan Datuk MP also hoped that the current government would not take the easy way out by lowering the haj subsidy as a means to manage Tabung Haji.- Star
